PSC appoints six new DIGs, promotes senior officers across police commands

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

The commission also announced promotions for several senior officers, including a former Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Uzuegbu Kanayo, who has now been elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani.

The newly appointed DIGs include: Sadiq Abubakar – Former Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; Benjamin Okolo – Former AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa, and currently serving as AIG in the Department of Information Communication Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Williams Adebowale – Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos; Bzigu Bali – AIG, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Ukuoma – AIG, Zone 14, Katsina; Adebola Hamzat – AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa.

In addition to the appointment of DIGs, the commission approved the promotion of Uzuegbu Kanayo, a former Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, to the rank of AIG. Kanayo has previously served in various capacities, including as Assistant Commissioner of Operations, Zone 9 Umuahia; Area Commander in Owerri and Karu (Nasarawa State); Commander of Switch Operation in Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Administration in Edo State Command; Deputy Commissioner, State CID Osun; and Commissioner of Police Operations, Communications, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The PSC also confirmed the appointment of new Commissioners of Police (CPs) for Oyo and Enugu State Commands: CP Ademola Johnson – Former Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police and former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, has been appointed CP of Oyo State.

CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa – Former DCP Operations in Kaduna and Imo State Commands, former ACP Police Mobile Force at Force Headquarters, and CSP A in the Police Mobile Force, has been appointed CP of Enugu State. He takes over from newly promoted AIG Uzuegbu Kanayo.

The commission further approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). The officers promoted are: Abdullahi Kamba Usman; Sani Abdu; Ifeanyi Owo; Vincent Orole; Elisha Atikinkpan; Margaret Okonkwo; Alhasan Aliyu Guga and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel

According to the statement, all newly promoted senior officers were subjected to rigorous written examinations and interactive oral interviews before their elevation was approved.

The appointments and promotions are part of the PSC’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, professionalism, and leadership effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.
