Rep. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called on the African Union Commission to ensure fairness and equity in the allocation and handling of issues among member states.

Kalu made the appeal during a Joint Orientation Workshop for Financial Affairs of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) held in Midrand, South Africa.

The Pan-African Parliament, also known as the African Parliament, serves as the legislative body of the African Union (AU), working to promote peace, security, and democracy across the continent.

While addressing attendees at the workshop, Kalu urged the African Union Commission to revisit its decisions and ensure all member states are treated fairly.

He expressed particular concern about the handling of appeals and the unequal distribution of opportunities within the organization.

Though he did not refer to any specific cases, Kalu emphasized the need for a more transparent and just approach.

“I’m calling for fairness and equity for everyone,” Kalu stated. “Whoever is entitled to a position or slot, whether by contributions or geographical representation, should have it.

Kalu also warned that as long as there was room for appeals, it would be unjust to proceed with decisions that lacked fairness.

He called for a review of certain decisions made by the African Union Commission that, in his view, undermined the principle of equality among member states.

The Deputy Speaker’s remarks reflect a growing call for greater transparency and balance within the African Union’s decision-making processes, especially in the context of power distribution among its member nations.
