Senate Committee recommends six-month suspension for Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
The Senate Committee on Public Conduct, Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has recommended the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, for a period of six months.
The committee’s chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen, presented the panel’s findings during a plenary session on Thursday, stating that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was found guilty of all allegations leveled against her.
The report indicated that the senator failed to submit herself to the legislative committee for a review of her conduct, which led to the decision to recommend her suspension.
As part of the recommendations, the committee also insisted that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan must issue a formal apology to the Senate for what was described as an act of “disrespecting the Senate.”

In addition to the six-month suspension, the panel advised that the senator’s salary and security details be withdrawn for the duration of the suspension.
The development has sparked reactions from political observers and members of the public, with some calling for transparency in the Senate’s disciplinary process.
Meanwhile, supporters of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan have urged for a fair review of the matter, emphasizing the need for due process and accountability in the handling of legislative infractions.
It remains to be seen how the Senate leadership will respond to the committee’s recommendations and whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will take further steps to challenge the decision.
