Suarez talks about Coutinho’s Barcelona ambition
Luis Suarez has explained why Philippe Coutinho wanted to leave Liverpool this summer.
Coutinho was the subject of three separate bids from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with the Brazilian also having a transfer request rejected by Liverpool.
The Reds refused to sell however, and have reintegrated Coutinho into the first team once more.
Suarez left Anfield to move to Barcelona in summer 2014, and has explained why Coutinho hoped to make the same journey.
“A lot,” he told Mundo Deportivo when asked what he could bring to Barcelona. “I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but everyone knows what Coutinho can contribute.
“He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level.
On whether Coutinho wanted to join Barcelona this summer, Suarez added: “Obviously he must have because he’s a player who has ambition and any player would want to come to Barca.
“He went through a difficult and very complicated moment but as a professional he continued to show how good a player he is and the personal quality he has.
“Despite trying to leave Liverpool he continued helping the team and working. He is demonstrating as a professional who has the ambition to take a step further.”
