Tactical squad, armed bandits duel inside Lagos-Ibadan forests; casualties recorded
Prowling inside the forest along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, six armed bandits were hoping for big catches August 21—only to find themselves confronting the Ogun police command tactical squad.
It was no accident though, according to police reports.
Locals in the Onigari area of Ogun tipped the police off on the armed bandits. And the state police commissioner Edward Ajogun immediately dispatched the squad led by CSP Olusola Oniyiku.
While searching, the team came under fire, and they responded.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said in the exchange, one of the kidnappers took a hit, and died right away.
“While searching the forest, one of the bandits with bullets wound was arrested in the bush but gave up the ghost a few minutes after,” Oyeyemi said.
Four others, however, escaped, wounded.
He added that two AK-47 rifles with breech numbers 1983NF1040 and 1987-3-CA-1212 and five rounds of ammunition were reportedly recovered from the criminals.
