UPDATE: Ebonyi ‘bomber” works for govt
The Ebonyi police command has explained the incident that took place in the morning at Afikpo.
Contrary to initial media and eyewitness accounts the dead victim of the explosion was a suicide bomber denied entry into a primary school around Eke Market, the police said it was an accident.
And the victim, Inspector Idi Aminu was a mobile police office fiddling with the hook of the grenade in his pocket, said Loveth Odah, police spokesperson.
The explosion took place after Aminu was allegedly turned back from entering the school.
“He mistakenly hit the lead of his grenade which was hanging on his waist with his elbow resulting in the deadly explosion,” she said.
