Suspected northeastern suicide bomber infiltrates southeast; how first mission rocked primary school, market
As Ebonyi reels in constant ferment of violence by IPOB fighters burning security posts and attacking police, new dimension of violence alien to the southeast was introduced May 25.
And the alleged maiden attack of such magnitude shook the Eke Market, in the Afikpo North LGA of Ebonyi.
A suspected suicide bomber met opposition while trying to enter a sweet spot— Amaizu/Amangballa Primary School in Afikpo—around 10 am Tuesday.
He was turned back because he couldn’t explain the reason he had to be let in by the gate keepers at the school entrance.
Sources said the attacker immediately started running inside a nearby bush.
The next thing the people around the area heard was a deafening boom of explosion, and everyone scampered to safety.
By the time the dust settled, and people went tracing what happened, it was shocking to see the stump of a human body, bathed in blood.
According to witnesses, the torso of the suspected suicide bomber’s body was blown into pieces.
Police have yet to come out with an official explanation.
IPOB burnt a police station and engaged security agents in shootouts today, and that was the mode of operation of the secessionist group.
Suicide bombing is known to be a trademark attack of Boko Haram seeking an Islamic caliphate in the northeast.
