Why Akpabio is doling out cash to constituents after losing election
Loser APC Sen. Godswill Akpabio is doling out cash to his constituents across the 10 LGAs in his senatorial district on June 8.
The senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District said he is doing that to empower his constituents as he rounds up his first tenure as Senator.
Chris Ekpenyong defeated Akpabio in the March election.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Senator, Mr Anietie Ekong said the handouts will be given in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN.)
“Cheques will also be presented to beneficiaries of the Senator Godswill Akpabio scholarship award while school children across the 10 Local Government Areas of the Senatorial District will also be given starter packs, books and writing materials,” the statement read in part.
Ekong thanked the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for the unwavering support and love they gave their leader Akpabio,
The statement said the empowerment programme will take place after a thanksgiving mass scheduled to take place at Saint Lucy Catholic Church, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area by 9 am.
