Wike fires again, says PDP must apologise to Nigerians over Atiku’s comment in Kaduna
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has fired again at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging the party to urgently address the statement of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at the Northern Stakeholders Meeting in Kaduna on Sunday, and apologise to Nigerians.
Governor Wike noted that though he doubts the possibility of Atiku making such a sensational statement at this critical time of the country’s history, and thereafter, argued that such posture would justify his fight for equity, justice and fairness in the PDP.
The Rivers Governor, leading the protestant G.5 in the PDP, declared that, “the party must urgently address the issue and appeal to Nigerians, lest the people stop rallying behind the PDP and begin to see the party as one where justice and equity do not abound.”
Atiku at the Stakeholders Meeting in Kaduna for northern presidential candidates on Sunday, had stated: “I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country. I think what the average northerner needs is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country.
“This is what the northerner needs. He doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had raised the statement to controversy level. Implying ethnic sentiments. However, on the same day, the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was in Ekiti State telling the people not to vote for Atiku and Obi, insinuating that Ekiti people do not know Atiku or Obi but know Tinubu, and should, therefore, deliver 95% of the votes of the state.
