Rivers State has been in the news for chaos as members of the State House of Assembly plotted the impeachment of the governor. The action was attributed to former Governor Wike who many believed was imposing his godfather status on Governor Fubara, his successor.
The battle was fiercely fought until Governor Fubara appeared to have regained ground and took control of the state structures, firing officials in the state government loyal to Wike, including changing the Speaker of the House of Assembly, suspending the Chief Judge of the State, firing the 23 local government chairmen, among others.
Meanwhile, it cannot be ascertained how far the mayhem in Rivers State has been brought under control, but Wike still maintain a pocket of loyalists in the state House of Assembly who are capable of causing mix-up and stalemate in the government of Rivers State.
There are expectations that President Bola Tinubu may intervene before they depart the State House.
