Locals invade police detention, kill, burn bandits to ashes in Sokoto
Locals in Tangaza LGA of Sokoto took law into their own hands on the weekends as they overwhelmed a divisional police headquarters, and sacked everyone there, detained bandits and officers.
They dealt even more fatally with the bandits who were the actual target.
A night before, the bandits invaded the area, kidnapped residents, and nabbed as much foodstuff as they wanted.
According to witnesses, the criminals got two of the locals to carry the foodstuff to their dens in the forest.
Cargo delivered, the bandits shot the two carriers dead.
Hunters and police officers later mobilized in pursuit of the criminals.
The raid yielded. Thirteen of the criminals were arrested and brought back to detention.
But angry locals invaded the station Saturday morning, chased the cops away, and lynched the bandits.
Not done yet, the angry mob set the corpses on fire, ensuring they all burnt to ashes.
According to Sokoto police command, more officers have been deployed to contain the situation.
