2 players Frank Lampard signed for Chelsea that have become established stars at Stamford Bridge
The reign of Frank Lampard as Chelsea coach was cut short in his second season at Stamford Bridge, the performance of the team was below the standard acceptable at the Blues.
It would have been a tough task for a young coach like Lampard to become a manager at Chelsea regardless of his record at the club as a player.
Chelsea can be rightly considered as one of the top teams in the English Premier League with the huge financial capability to sign the best talent available in the world of football.
However, the transfer ban placed on Chelsea made the club less attractive to the top coaches. The Blues needed someone who could manage what was available at the club and also get some youngsters into the first team.
Frank Lampard was a good candidate to achieve these tasks, he had done comfortably well with a less talented team at Derby and also made use of some youngsters as the coach.
The decision to make Frank Lampard the coach after Maurizio Sarri looked like a lovely idea during his first season with the Blues. The second season wasn’t as productive as the first one, the club had to let go of the Lampard to get the team performing.
When Frank Lampard was at the club as the coach, Chelsea signed several players. These two players have grown to become an established figures at the club.
1. Edouard Mendy: The Senegalese goalkeeper was signed up from Rennes. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been less convincing as the goalkeeper of the team, it was very glaring that Chelsea needed to get a new goalkeeper to compete for major silverware.
Edouard Mendy was made the first team goalkeeper immediately after he joined the Blues. He has grown to become a dependable member of the first team.
2. Ben Chilwell: The English defender was signed from Leicester City during Frank Lampard’s era. His adaptation at Stamford Bridge was a fast one, it didn’t take long before he made the left-back wing his own.
Ben Chilwell is a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
