Fayose inaugurates forum for grass-root development
VERNOR of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose in a further effort to strengthen his ties with the grassroots, has devised a mechanism that would further draw the grassroots to his government, by inaugurating a grassroots Forum; Fayose Solidarity Forum (FSF) which comprises unions of various professional and vocational bodies in the state.
Inaugurated in Ado Ekiti, the Forum brought together chapters of professional and vocational associations such as the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE), Grassroot Development Movement (GDM), Theatre Arts Practitioners of Nigeria (TAPAN), Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), National Association of Tailors, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Nigeria Automobile and Technicians Association (NATAN), Regent Council Of Ekiti, Ebira Community and Association of Motorcycles Riders among others.
Convener of the Forum, Honourable Wale Ayeni, serving member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, representing Ikere Constituency 1, explained that the purpose of the Fayose Soldarity Forum is to essentially bring governance closer to Ekiti people, ensure that the achievement, programmes and intentions of Governor Fayose is adequately communicated to the people at the grassroots and also bring to the notice of the Governor the yearnings of the people via adequate representation by heads of various unions in the state.

Ayeni said: “We have convened this Forum with a view to making sure that our people are aware of what Governor Fayose is doing in Ekiti and also appreciate it. There are so many things he has done in spite of the paucity of funds. The Forum would also serve as platform for members of various professional and vocational unions to bring to the knowledge of the Governor their yearnings, needs and others through their leaders. We will be holding meetings periodically and also extend it to local areas where we will form units at the grassroots which would be responsible for organising the people, communicate to them Governor Fayose’s programmes and also report on their needs to the Governor.
The Forum would equally serve as platform for every professional and vocational bodies to reach out to the Governor and make known their needs to him.
“Though Governor Fayose is a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) product but he is not for the party members only as Governor of Ekiti State. He is for everybody, so members of this Forum is not limited to PDP members alone. It is for everyone in Ekiti belonging to one association or the other in any profession or vocation.”
Special Adviser to Governor Fayose on Special Duties, Mr. Ayo Alabi, who disclosed that the Forum is an initiative of Governor Fayose, said that members of the variuos unions present at the inauguration are expected to go back to their domains and local areas to communicate the intentions of the Government to them and also gather information about their needs for the Government to take proper steps towards assisting them.
