The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his assets before the 2019 general elections. PDP Presidential Campaign Spokesman, Sanni Umar, speaking on SUNRISE DAILY on Channels Television on Thursday monitored from Lagos, said that President Buhari should declare his assets after three and half years in office to enable Nigerians compare what he had in 2015 and what he has acquired after three and half years of being president of the country and fighting corruption.
Umar said that the declaration will further prove the honesty of the president in his fight against corruption, whether he has fought corruption with clean hands or he made personal benefits in fighting corruption.
He remarked that an instance a former Director in the Pension Board, Abdulrasheed Maina, who absconded over corruption allegations was reinstated by the Buhari administration and promoted from Deputy Director to Director, does not prove that the president is genuinely fighting corruption, he cited some other instances.
Umar listed that PDP chased Maina out of office because of corruption; that PDP created the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the ICPC; initiated the Treasury Single Account (TSA); the Bank Verification Number (BVN), etc, to fight corruption in the country, to show that the PDP does not encourage corruption.
Umar also said that “Maina returned to destroy the corruption documents in his office.” He noted the period Buhari reinstated Maina was enough for him to sort out all the corruption documents and destroy them to ensure all the evidence against him have been destroyed.
He recalled that late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua declared his assets publicly, adding that the Media Aide to Yar’Adua, Segun Adeniyi, made the declaration statement available to the Media and the general public. He challenged Buhari to do same before the 2019 elections to prove his integrity.
