28-year-old electrician electrocuted in Oyo

A 28-year-old electrician was electrocuted in Oyo State.

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency confirmed that a 28-year-old electrician was electrocuted in Odo Babaode, Eruwa Community, Oyo State, while trying to repair a fault from a 33KV High Tension Cables.

The agency’s General Manager, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed this in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday.

Akinyinka said that personnel of the agency recovered the corpse of the electrician from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s (IBEDC) high tension cable.

He said that the agency received a distressed call about the incident about 3:29 p.m on Wednesday through a telephone call from one Adelanre Adeyinka.

The General Manager said that the agency’s personnel led by Peluola Babatunde immediately moved to the scene and on arrival met the victim already electrocuted.

“On arrival at the place, we met the victim already electrocuted and all necessary precautionary measures were observed so as to safeguard the citizens within the vicinity.

“The man was recovered and handed over to a team of police from Eruwa Police station,” he said.

The general manager said the incident occurred when the victim was trying to rectify an electrical fault on the active power lines without shutting down the feeder.

He advised the public to value their life than material gains, noting that only trained Engineer or Technician should be responsible for handling active electrical equipment.
