5 things you should know about late Ohanaeze Ndigbo president
President General of the apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, is dead.
His death was announced by the Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Wednesday night.
Below are five things you should know about the late elder statesman and scholar of repute:
1. The 80-year-old retired diplomat hailed from Awo-Omamma in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.
2. Obiozor was a former Nigerian ambassador to the United States, Cyprus and Israel.
3. He was elected the 10th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on January 9, 2021, succeeding Nnia Nwodo.
4. The late Ohanaeze leader attended the Institute of African Studies in Geneva, Switzerland and University of South Tacoma Washington, US, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science. He bagged a master’s degree in international law from the Columbia University, New York.
5. Obiozor clamoured for a Nigerian president of south-eastern origins during his time as leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
