Abia Comets pip 3SC 2-1
Group B1 matches of the 2019 NNL regular season, came to an end on Sunday with table toppers, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, losing 2-1 to Abia Comets, National Daily learnt.
In Osogbo, Osun United, handed a 1-0 defeat to Bayelsa United in the group’ second match of the final day.
In a match marred by questionable officiating, Abia Comets managed to edge 3SC , a result that changes nothing as the Oluyole Warriors had already sealed their place in the playoff before the last day.
Playing before a scanty crowd at the Enyimba International Stadium, Comets rallied to victory via goals from Pascal Eke in the 9th minute and Abdulkareem Mumuni, who converted a spot kick in the closing minutes of the first half.
The Oluyole Warriors, who started the game without some of their regulars, pulled a goal back late in the second half through Rasheed Ahmed.
Inspire of the loss, 3SC finished top on the log with 17 points, followed by Comets with 12 points, same as Giant Brillars, who finished third as a result of lesser goal difference.
Bayelsa United ended the race with eight points to place fourth, while Osun United garnered seven points to occupy the last place on the log.
Shooting Stars have just one more hurdle to scale to make a return to the Nigerian elite league.
