Lehmann thinks Arsenal could do better than Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes Arsenal will be able to sign a better player than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if the striker leaves for United.
“If you finish fifth [in the league] you can sell players,” Lehmann said. “If he [Aubameyang] was to go to United, a new player would come in who could do better. Arsenal’s goal shouldn’t be to finish fifth or sixth.”
United were linked with Aubameyang by talkSPORT earlier on in the transfer window but there is no genuine suggestion that the Gabon international will actually move to Old Trafford.
In other news, Toby Alderweireld was on United’s radar last summer but they have not revived their interest in the Belgian this time around and he expects to remain a Spurs player next season.
“Yes [I expect to stay at Spurs],” Alderweireld said. “That’s my focus in football. Everything can go quick but all I’m doing is focusing on Spurs and being fit for the start of the season.
“I think the manager [Mauricio Pochettino] knows I am committed to the club and the team but you never know in football. A game like [Juventus] I was captain – so that shows the manager has trust in me and I’m showing the right attitude.
“Again, it (a club triggering his £25million release clause) can happen but my focus is on Spurs and in my head I will be playing for Spurs.”
