National security summit: FG slams PDP for playing politics
The Nigerian Government on Tuesday slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on national security and convene a summit of all stakeholders to find solutions to the intractable insecurity in the country. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, at a media briefing complained that the federal government has held a series of Townhall meetings since 2016 and had been very engaging with citizens. He berated the PDP for playing politics with national security in accusing the Federal Government of not engaging well with Nigerians.
Mohammed protested why the opposition PDP resorted not to acknowledge that fact on the efforts of the government.
The minister disclosed that the 10 recommendations from the recent security summit held in Kaduna have been forwarded to the NEC for further action, noting that the government won’t spare anything to ensure the heightened security in the country is addressed head.
The PDP had urged the president to convene a national security summit to expand the scope contributions to finding solutions to the insecurity crisis in the country.
There are emerging indications that the government has been under pressure over the lingering insecurity that has continued to defy all efforts to restore peace and security in the country.
