Anambra 2021: Ozigbo, PDP face fresh uncertainty
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, may be facing fresh uncertainty after the Appeal Court on Friday nullified the judgement sacking the PDP State Executive elected during the state congress in Anambra State. If the Appeal Court judgement which also nullified all congresses and party primary elections, is upheld to the last, the PDP and Ozigbo may lose the opportunity of participating in the Anambra governorship election. on the other divide, the candidate that emerged from the state executive being restored by the Appeal Court, Ugochukwu Uba, may be the PDP candidate in the election.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Friday upturned the judgement of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, presided by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, which dismissed the PDP Executive Council in Anambra State.
The three-man panel led by Justice Stephen Adah, in a unanimous decision, upheld the appeals seeking the nullification of the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Adah of the Court of Appeal in the judgement declared that the Federal High Court, Abuja, lacked the territorial jurisdiction to entertain the suit brought before it on the dispute over PDP leadership in Anambra State.
The PDP may be heading to the Supreme Court for the ultimate judgement before the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State. However, Ozigbo is not party to the contentious suit but the party structure the court recognizes is significant in the presentation of candidate to the INEC for the election.
