Lawmakers in Gurara Local Government Legislative Council, Niger State, have cried out over police harassment and embarrassment in Minna, Niger State. The lawmakers had disclosed that they were seriously harassed and embarrassed by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Minna, Niger State.
The councilors, speaking to National Daily, lamented “we were harassed and humiliated by the police immediately after the Federal High Court, Minna, said it lacked the jurisdiction to carry on the judgement on suit before the court. The judge had transferred the case to Suleja High Court.

“It was a big shock that after the judge had addressed us and transferred the case back to Suleja High Court, that the police, as if it was a plan, came in saying that the Commissioner of Police, who just resumed office, wants to see our leader,” the council legislators said.

They further narrated: “So, we all went with them, but they couldn’t allow us to get into the office with the leader. So, we didn’t agree. Only our leader and our lawyers were allowed to go in.

“After they entered and left us outside, later, the leader was released amidst protest that we want to go in there with our leader.”

The Council chairman, Yusuf Wali Gawu, suspended and accused of fraud and money laundering had taken the councilors to court, challenging his suspension as illegal. He denied the allegation, saying that they are fallacious, insisting that he did not steal money.
