PDP crisis: Jonathan’s silence worries party elders
Elders and notable stakeholders in the troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have become perturbed about the silence of former President Goodluck Jonathan over the crisis ravaging the party. A source from the party disclosed to National Daily that PDP elders are highly disturbed that the former president besides his silence has not participated in the various meetings or consultations by party stakeholders to resolve the teething leadership conflict in the party.
Our source noted that former President Jonathan has neither participated in the arbitration and reconciliation meetings held by party elders like the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, two former Senate Presidents David Mark and Anyim Pius Anyim, as well as former Governor Makarfi of Kaduna State, including former ministers. The noted that the PDP Governors Forum chaired by Governor Aminu Tambuwal was more of a platform for the governors behind the crisis to accomplish their battle.
Our party source said that the PDP elders are worried that Jonathan’s silence is not only disturbing at a time the PDP appears to be heading to disintegration but also generating or reinforcing suspicion that the former president’s speculated pressure to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have influenced his silence over the current crisis in the PDP.
Meanwhile, the PDP has scheduled the national convention of the party to hold in Abuja in October for election of new executives into the National Working Committee (NEC) as panacea to the lingering crisis.
