Anambra 2021: IPOB dissociates group from order to boycott election, insists on one week sit-at-home on Nov 5
The Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday dissociated the group from the directive to the people in Anambra State to stay away from the Saturday governorship election. IPOB in a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, declared that it never at any time issued any order or call for the boycott of Anambra election, saying that the group has nothing to do with the governorship election. IPOB, however, insisted that members of the group may embark on one week sit-at-home from November 5 if the government does not release Nnamdi Kanu and other members being prosecuted in Abuja.
The Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, therefore, warned that nobody should link IPOB with the Anambra governorship election.
Powerful maintained that the major concern of IPOB is the unconditional release of its Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, illegally detained by the Nigeria government.
The Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, therefore, threatened that “if by November 4 those who abducted, renditioned and illegally detained their leader fail to release him unconditionally, it’s members shall embark on civil disobedience of one week sit-at-home, beginning from November 5 to November 10.”
IPOB had in an earlier statement threatened to ensure that the Anambra governorship election does not hold on November 6 if Kanu was still detained by the Nigerian government. Since then, Anambra has been turned into a theatre of violence and gun battle with security operatives.
