Qatar 2022: Nigeria defeats Liberia 2-0 to top World Cup group
Nigeria on Saturday defeated Liberia 2-0 in Tangier, Morocco, to stay top of the group with 12 points in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match. Nigeria’s first goal was scored by Victor Osiemhen of Napoli, Italy in the 15th minute of the first half; while Ahmed Musa scored the second goal for Nigeria in the 94th minute. The two goals were scored through penalty.
The country that tops the group will qualify for the knockout stage where pairing countries will advance further after two-leg – home and away – matches to produce the best five countries to appear for the African continent at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria will play Cape Verde on Tuesday in the final matches of the group league. A win or draw will see Nigeria through to the knockout stage. A defeat in the final game will be a tragedy for the Super Eagles.
