Buhari rejects state policing
President Muhammadu Buhari has again rejected state police, stating the problem of funding and abuse by state governors..
The insistence further highlights his opposition to what the Nigerian Governors Forum position has been—in favour of state policing.
In an effort to prepare the ground for that, governors across the southwest and southeast have established state and regional security networks to stem the tide of insecurity in their states.
But in interview on Channel TV Tuesday, Buhari said state police is not an option.
“Find out the relationship between local governments and the governors. Are the third tier of government getting what they are supposed to get constitutionally?
“Are they getting it?
“Let the people in local government tell you the truth, the fight between local governments and the governor.”
