APC Govs. Forum DG warns, delay of Feb convention weakening electoral prospect
The Director General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, has cautioned that the delay of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to hold the February national convention of the party to elect members of the National Working Committee (NWC) is weakening the electoral prospect of the party in the 2023 general elections. The DG of the APC Governors forum, therefore, protested in a statement that the February date for the APC National Convention does not need consultation.
The DG argued that the continuous permission of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Governor Mala Buni to slow down the process of organising the February APC National Convention, reflect that the party leaders could be “supporting the CECPC in weakening the electoral prospect of the APC.”
Salihu Lukman berated that Caretaker Committee leadership over the delay in implementation of decision to organise the February National Convention, stating that “there is hardly any internal party preparation for the 2023 electoral contest beyond individual leaders declaring their personal aspirations for offices.”
Salihu Lukman maintained that “it is important that the party is able to set some minimum standards for the 2023 campaigns so that individual aspirants can orient their internal party mobilisation around those standards.”
The PGF DG warned that “APC must not make the mistake of orientating its internal party mobilisation for the emergence of candidates for 2023 elections, especially, presidential candidate, only based on personality contest.”
Lukman insisted that APC stakeholders should note that the first challenge is to ensure that “the CECPC has no option but to organise the APC National Convention in February as decided based on all the consultations that have taken place, and failure to do otherwise will mean going against president Muhammadu Buhari’s order.”
It was observed that President Muhammadu Buhari had endorsed February for the national convention; howe
