Oni leads PDP protest against Fayose
A notable governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Segun Oni, in Monday led mass protest in the state, agitating perceived hijacking of the PDP Ward Congress conducted on Saturday, January 15, 2022, by former Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The protesters demanded the indefinite suspension of Fayose from the PDP. They alleged that Fayose subverted the PDP efforts towards transparent electoral process at the grassroots, saying the former governor compiled the list of Ward Executives at his Private Event Center, at the time the party’s Congress was in progress in the 177 Wards in Ekiti State.
The protesters appealed to the PDP National Working Committee to reject the list sent by Ayodele Fayose to the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja; they agitated that there was no congress in the state.
The protest occurred after Oni appeared to have lost in the ward congress, and perhaps, felt this would affect his chances of winning the PDP ticket for the governorship election in Ekiti State.
