Benin Republic renews Igboho’s detention
Detained Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo Igboho has longer tie to cool his heels in Cotonou jail as the Benin Republic government adds more to his time.
His lawyers, present and former, contradicted themselves on social media yesterday, thus revealing the hard time is not over yet with Igboho.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, who was kicked out of the contract , said during the weekend that Igboho would be released soon.
But the leading counsel to the agitator said otherwise.
“The government of the Republic of Benin has renewed the incarceration of Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa for another six months even though there is no criminal charge in their file in Cotonou and without extradition request from Nigeria,” said Yomi Aliyu.
Igboho was detained last July on his flight to Germany through Benin Republic—with fake travel documents—after being declared wanted by the Nigerian government.
AGF Abubakar Malami has said Igboho will be extradited after he serves out his time in jail.
