Wike scares APC in Cross River bye-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has developed palpable fear over Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the build up to the bye-election in Cross River State. The State Chairman of the APC in Cross River had on Tuesday declared Governor Wike of Rivers a security threat to the party in the state, crying out to the people in the state to assist APC in resisting the Rivers State governor.

The APC State Chairman also cried out to the Inspector-General of Police, Director of Security Services and the National Security Adviser to call Governor Wike to order, saying he is a “Meddlesome Interloper” in the politics of Cross River State.

There was no escape for the state APC when the National Working Committee (NWC), of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday appointed Governor Wike Chairman of the Cross River State bye-election Campaign Council. Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State was appointed Co-Chairman of the Campaign Council.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement disclosed that Governor Nyesom Wike will lead the National Campaign Council/Election Management Team for the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and Akpabuyo State Constituency bye-elections holding on Saturday, February 26.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary indicated that former Governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke of Cross River State, including the three serving Senators from Cross River are members of the Campaign Council.

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State had defected from the PDP to the APC with the PDP mandate and has been struggling to establish his dominance of the state politics.
