Cross River 2023: APC boils over zoning
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is boiling over zooming of the governorship ticket in Cross River State. APC members from Cross River Central senatorial district are vehemently challenging the zoning scheme in the state. They argue that the contest be thrown open for the emergence of the best candidates for the party.
APC Central Stakeholders Forum in Cross River State led by Senator John Owan Enoh, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani and an oil businessman, Chris Agara, in a statement argued for “opening of the political space in the state for the overall interest of the party and to provide for a credible emergence of candidates with regard to governorship rather than emphasizing on zoning as a winning strategy.”
The APC Central Stakeholders are challenging the decision of Governor Ben Ayade to zone the 2023 governorship ticket to Cross River South senatorial district.
Supporters of Ayade justified the governor’s decision on promotion of equality, fairness and justice in the state. They noted that each of the three senatorial Districts – South, Central and Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State, have produced governors for two terms of eight years, from Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke to Ben Ayade.
APC State Chairman in Cross River, Alphonsus Eba-Ogar, indicated that party leaders will dialogue as a family to make a decision on the zoning controversy.
Cross River Central senatorial district has aspirants for the governorship election in the state and does not want to be shut out of the race through zoning.
