Fire accident in a hospital killed 11 newborn babies died in a health facility. President Macky Sall of Senegal on Wednesday decried the death of 11 newborn infants in a fire outbreak in an hospital in Tivaouane, Western Senegal. The Senegalese President announced on Twitter late on Wednesday that 11 infants had died in the blaze at a hospital in Senegal,
“I have just learned with pain and dismay about the deaths of 11 newborn babies in the fire at the neonatal department of the public hospital,” he tweeted.
President Sall tweeted: “To their mothers and their families, I express my deepest sympathy.”
A politician in Senegal, Diop Sy, was cited to have said that the fire outbreak at the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital in Tivaouane, was said to be caused by “a short circuit”. He noted that “the fire spread very quickly.”
The Mayor Demba Diop disclosed “three babies were saved”.
The Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Hospital was said to be newly inaugurated in the country.
