Former presidential aide and renowned human rights activist, Reno Omokri, has slammed the self-styled National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for recent comments he made as regards the presidency.

While addressing party delegates and supporters in Ogun State on Thursday, June 2, 2022, Jagaban, who is a front runner in the APC presidential race, disclosed the role he played in Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as Commander in Chief back in 2015 after the latter had contested and lost several elections.

The former Lagos Governor narrated to all in attendance how he visited Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, to urge him to contest against Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, assuring him of victory at the polls. Tinubu went on to insist that for that singular reason, he should receive the baton of leadership from the president in 2023.

“If not for me that led the war front, Buhari not have emerged. He contested first, second and third times, but lost. He even said on television that he would not contest again.

But I went to his home in Katsina, I told him he would contest and win, but you will not joke with Yoruba matters. This time, it’s the Yoruba’s turn and in Yorubaland, it’s my tenure,” he said.

As expected, Asiwaju’s statements have set many tongues wagging in the country’s political space, with many prominent Nigerians reading different meanings into his words.

Taking to his Twitter handle some hours ago, Reno Omokri accused the APC leader of making personal appeals to Buhari for the presidency.

According to him, Asiwaju ought to have taken the time to convince Nigerians why he is best suited to lead the nation beyond 2023.
