Shehu Sani slams Nigerian elites on ethnic politics, says Fulani from Sokoto won first Enugu Mayor in 1952
Senator Shehu Sani has slammed the elite in Nigeria for the return of ethnicity, regionalism, and religion to Nigerian politics. The senator decried the increasing ethnic and religious intolerance in the country’s elections.
Sani recalled that a Fulani man from Sokoto contested, won and was made the Mayor of Enugu, southeast Nigeria, in 1952. He also recalled that a politician from Imo State also won election into the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 1999. Shehu Sani lamented how the country lost the value of national unity.
Sani in a tweet on his official handle,

Chief Ike Madu from Imo State became a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in 1999. Great Zik won in Lagos in the 50s. HOW DID WE LOST THAT SPIRIT?”
