Alleged killer of Akwa Ibom job seeker, Akpan sentenced to death
The Akwa Ibom state High Court has sentenced Uduak Akpan, the first accused in the murder of Akwa Ibom job seeker, Iniobong Umoren.
Akpan attempted to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, on Thursday.
The convict was sentenced to death by hanging and life imprisonment in the two charge of murder and rape preferred against him.
However, the court discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan and sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused), who were standing trial.
Umoren was raped and killed in April in the outskirts of Uyo by Akpan who the police in Akwa Ibom State described as a serial rapist.
Her remains were buried in a shallow grave in Akpan’s family house where the crime took place.
