Ukraine President begs G7 for more arms to fight Russia
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, speaking to leaders of the G7 on Tuesday would be begging for urgent supply of more weapons to Ukraine to fight and defend country against Russia.
After Russia’s devastating struck hit Ukraine in a retaliatory strike over the attack on Crimea Bridge, killed 19 people, several European countries volunteered military support for Ukraine. U.S, France, Germany, and other countries, had promised to provide air defence equipment to Ukraine.
President Joe Biden of U.S. and other G7 leaders at their virtual meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on what more military support for Ukraine, are waiting for Zelenskiy who has earlier demanded air defence systems which he declared his “number 1 priority”, to make formal request to the group.
Russian missiles cruised across Ukraine in the early hours of Monday.
The air strikes hit the power generating facilities as well as non-strategic targets such as parks and tourist sites, leaving devastation, terror, and power cuts in their wake.
Emergency services officials disclosed that at least 19 people were killed and 105 injured, in the air strike.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia had said missile strike was retaliation for the Ukrainian bombing of the Kerch Bridge on Saturday which links Russia to Crimea.
Ukraine is yet to take responsibility for the bombing which killed at least three civilians and destroyed parts of the bridge’s road segment which have been used to supply occupying Russian forces in.
Ukrainian officials reported more strikes on Tuesday, including one on the southeastern town of Zaporizhzhia which killed at least one person.
