Panic over gunshots along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday
There was panic in the early hours of Friday as shooting were heard along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway somewhere in Ogun State corridor.
The pandemonium adjacent to Opic arena was said to be triggered by the uprising of okada operators who were said to be protesting the assault of one of their colleagues by a police officer who had accosted the okada rider for undermining traffic rules and driving against traffic on the expressway.
Okada operators had gathered in large numbers, burning tyres along the expressway, and obstructing traffic.
Police and Naval officials were subsequently de0ployed to the scene to restore order, and clear the way for free flow of traffic along the expressway.
Divisional Police Officer, Abdul Fattah O. led the police personnel to the scene to forestall breakdown of law and order.
A police officer was said to have confronted an Okada rider for disobeying traffic rules, and in the process discharging firearms which injured one person. The injured was said to be immediately taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the combined team of the security operatives was said to have restored normalcy at the scene.
