Man, docked for alleged N1.8m job scam
A 40-year-old man, Dauda Yusuf, was on Tuesday docked in a Kaduna High Court for an alleged N1.8 million job scam.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Yusuf with employment fraud.
The EFCC Counsel, Mr. E.K. Garba, told the court that the defendant committed the offense sometime in Aug. 2021 in Kaduna.
Garba said the defendant had swindled his victims of N1.8million under the pretext of securing jobs for them with the Nigeria Customs Service.
According to him, the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N200, 000 from one Hamed Suleiman and eight others under the false pretense that he would secure employment for them at the Nigeria Customs Service.
He said that the defendant told his victims that the payment was for the custom job replacement and training kit, a pretext that he knew to be false.
Garba said the offense contravened sections 213 of the Penal Code Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Usman Bala, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.
The Judge, Hannatu Balogun, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Balogun ordered that each surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must, in addition, own a landed property.
She held that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and adjourned the case until Dec. 12 for a hearing.
