How Mobile Court jailed fake LASTMA ‘officer’ in Lagos

A mobile court sitting at Oshodi zone in Lagos State, in a judgment convicted and jailed an impersonator of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), David Oluchkwu, four years.

The Public relations Officer of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement on Wednesday narrated that the impersonator was arrested for extorting money from motorists in Lagos.

The PRO said that LASTMA patrol team caught the fake official at the Lekki axis on Monday.

According to Taofiq,  LASTMA prosecuted Oluchkwu on two-count charge of “conduct likely to cause breach of peace” and “impersonation.”

Taofiq stated that the Magistrate, Adesanya Adebola, sent Oluchkwu to jail without any option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

He said that the charges against the impersonator contravened Section 168 (D) and Section 78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State (2015).

The Managing Director of LASTMA,  Bolaji Oreagba, noted the judgment was a welcome development, saying it would serve as a deterrent to others who are still extorting money from members of the public under false pretense.

“Our Surveillance and Intelligence Unit which has now been fully restructured would continue to hunt for other bad elements disturbing the peace of the society,” Oreagba had said.
