Woman docked for allegedly assaulting police officer
A 43-year-old woman, Ebifemi Simisola, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun, for allegedly assaulting a police officer while discharging his duty.
The Police charged Simisola, whose address was not provided with assault and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 6 at about 1.30 p.m. at Polaris Bank,Ota.
Adaraloye said that the defendant assaulted Insp. Edoh Ogiri, by biting him, while he was trying to control her in the bank premises.
He said that the defendant also conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, by shouting and disturbing the operation of Polaris Bank.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 356 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O.Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N250, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until March 13 for further hearing.
