Gunmen kidnap Census Commissioner in Rivers, demand N500m ransom
The Police on Tuesday revealed the kidnap of a Federal Commissioner in the National Population Commission (NPC), representing Bayelsa State, Gloria Izonfuo, in Rivers State by armed men.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, had disclosed that the Federal Commissioner, Izonfuo, was kidnapped on Sunday evening, together with her maid and driver at Ogbakiri junction on the East-West road.
The commissioner was said to be returning to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from Brass, Bayelsa State, when her vehicle was intercepted by the gunmen.
The gunmen were said to have contacted the family of the kidnapped federal commissioner serving in Rivers State, demanding N500 million ransom.
Meanwhile, the PPRO was gathered to have said that the Commissioner of Police in the state has mandated tactical teams to commence search and rescue operations and ensure the commissioner is rescued safe and unhurt from the kidnappers.
