Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu: Innovation and Infrastructure Governor of the Year
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the 15th Governor of Lagos State, recipient of National Daily Innovation and Infrastructure Governor of The Year Award, has since assumption of office on May 29, 2019, distinguished himself as a service-oriented leader committed to effective and efficient service delivery for enduring socio-economic growth and development in the State.
Sanwo-Olu wasted no time in finding solutions to the perennial crisis of traffic management in the state through innovative infrastructure and road network expansion, including re-designing of major roundabouts in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in the past four years of his first tenure, turned Lagos into construction arena, with sites of massive infrastructural projects developed concomitantly in several parts of the State. From Ikorodu to Badagry; Epe to Alimosho; from Agege to Satellite Town; from Ijede to Agbowa; Iyana-Ipaja to Amukoko; from Isolo to Ajeromi, from Orile Agege to Igando, modern infrastructure in roads, schools, ICT, health and transportation system are being developed

Some of the remarkable projects of the Sanwo-Olu administration include: completion of the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge, Housing Schemes across the State, Urban Renewal in Victoria Island, completion of the Lekki Free Trade Zone Jetty and Offloading Platform, Empowerment of 879 Farmers and SME beneficiaries of the Lagos APPEALS, Training of over 18,000 under the EkoExcel Scheme, Renovation and Digitalisation of 234 public secondary school libraries, including Upgrading of over 1,000 public Primary and Secondary School.
Others include provision of 102 Waste Compactor Trucks and 100 Double Dino bins to boost LAWMA operations, Introduction of Body cameras for security operatives, Donation of 150 vehicles, 4 high-capacity troop carriers, 2 anti-riot water cannon vehicles to the police towards security strengthening in the State, launch of LagRide with 1,000 units of Sport Utility Vehicles and 560 high-medium capacity buses for standard routes across Lagos.
The Lagos Light Rail also came alive in the Sanwo-Olu administration.
To address the plight of the poor, the governor introduced “Sanwo-Olu Listens” and the “BOS-KOH Annual Medical Mission”.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has become synonymous with symbol of responsible governance in Nigeria, a phenomenon of the people’s governor.
Governor Sanwo-Olu predicates his developmental policy blueprint on T.H.E.M.E.S to transform Lagos into a Mega City.
The successful delivery of dividends of democracy and functional service delivery culminated in Sanwo-Olu’s victory for second term re-election in the 2023 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, was accordingly, conferred with a -well-deserved National Daily Award of Innovation and Infrastructure Governor of the Year at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on May 12 under the chairmanship of Prince Julius Adeluyi Adelusi, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo presided as Special Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote speech.
