US opposes prosecution of Bazoum

The United States has expressed strong opposition to the prosecution of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum by the military regime in Niger Republic.

The State Department spokesman, Vedant Patel, had in a media interaction declared that the threat to prosecute ousted President Bazoum is completely unwarranted and unjustified. He warned that the threat to prosecute Bazoum would not contribute to a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Niger Republic.

Patel maintained that the US government has again condemned the continuous detention of the ousted President, deadening his immediate release and reinstatement.

“We are incredibly dismayed by reports that President Bazoum’s unjust detention has gone even a step further,” he was cited to have said.
