Veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor undergoes leg amputation
Veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has undergone a leg amputation due to a severe illness. The actor had been battling an undisclosed ailment for several weeks and was hospitalized in Lagos.
In a statement released by his family, they revealed that the amputation was necessary to save Mr. Ibu’s life. “We are sad to announce that Mr. Ibu has undergone a leg amputation,” the statement read. “This was a difficult decision, but it was necessary to save his life.”
The family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received from fans and well-wishers. “We are deeply grateful for the prayers and support we have received during this difficult time,” the statement continued. “We ask for continued privacy as we focus on Mr. Ibu’s recovery.”

Mr. Ibu is a beloved figure in Nigerian cinema and has starred in over 200 films. He is known for his comedic roles and his infectious energy.
His fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their best wishes for a speedy recovery. “I wish Mr. Ibu a full and speedy recovery,” wrote one fan. “He is a true icon of Nollywood.”
Mr. Ibu is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to make a full recovery.
In a recent interview with the press, Mr. Ibu expressed his gratitude for the support he has received during his recovery. “I am so grateful for the prayers and support of my fans,” he said. “I am determined to make a full recovery and return to acting as soon as possible.“
