Officers involved in Ngilari release suspended
For facilitating release of Adamawa ex-governor jailed recently, three senior officers of the Adamaw Prison have been suspended by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board.
Those suspended are Peter Tenkwa, the controller of Prisons for Adamawa State and Abubakar Abaka, the Deputy Comptroller and John Bukar, a Superintendent of Prisons.
Prisons spokesman Francis Enobore on Tuesday said the suspended officers were indicted for their roles in the issuance of an unauthorised medical report that helped Bala Ngilari leave jail on health grounds and court order.
The former governor initially bagged a five-year jail term, which he has appealed.
A letter dated 3rd April, 2017 and signed by the Director/Secretary of the Board, Sunday Ogu, approved the suspension of the officers while investigations go on.
Justice Nathan Musa of Yola High Court last week granted bail to Mr. Ngilari on health grounds.
Tenkwa said he wasn’t aware of the fraudulent letter used by the convict use to secure the bail was fraudulent. And, according to the controller, he immediately communicated to the prison headquarters.
Since his release, Ngilari has left the country.
