Companionship
My mother who I fondly call, “Mama P”, has been a stable presence in the lives of my children. They have a really beautiful relationship. I make it my duty to call my mother daily.
However, if I see persistent missed calls from my mom, it means she knows my kids are with me and she needs to speak with them.
Sometimes I get a bit jealous and in jest I tell her to, “Focus on her children and leave other people’s children alone”
Mama P often ends her conversation and interactions with my children by reminding them of Proverbs 13:20. She will not let them go until they recite “He who walks with the wise shall be wise but the companion of fools shall be destroyed”.
I have been reflecting on Proverbs 13:20. The choice of companions, true to the text; many young and old people have had futures destroyed by the companions they kept. The potential and impact of young men and women with innovative ideas and visions for a better world have been lost because of who they chose to walk with.
As we navigate life, it is important for each of us to reflect and weigh the impact of our companions on our lives. What do we gain spiritually, intellectually, and physically from the company we keep?
Always remember the companion of fools will be destroyed.
