President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to endure the current economic challenges, assuring them that his administration’s reforms will yield positive results.

Acknowledging the difficulties brought about by recent policy changes, Tinubu expressed confidence in his government’s ability to turn things around.

In a video shared on his X account, Tinubu addressed the “tough” economic climate, attributing the hardships to the removal of fuel subsidies and other reforms.

He explained that there is an “unavoidable lag” between these actions and the realization of their benefits.

“This period may be hard on us, and there is no doubt that it is tough on us,” Tinubu said. “But I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pain and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works, and more importantly, I know that they will work.”

The president reassured the nation that progress is being made to close the gap between the implementation of reforms and their impact on citizens’ lives.

He urged Nigerians to maintain faith in his administration’s commitment to their well-being, vowing that the country will emerge from its current challenges.

“Due to the measures we have taken, Nigeria will be better equipped and able to take advantage of the future that awaits her,” Tinubu added, promising that the nation is “exiting darkness to enter a new and glorious dawn.”

Tinubu’s comments come amidst widespread protests over soaring inflation and a severe cost of living crisis, which have led to unrest and violence in some parts of the country.

The protests began on August 1, following Tinubu’s decision to end a longstanding petrol subsidy and float the naira, moves that triggered a sharp rise in food prices and living costs.
