40-year-old woman sets self ablaze after divorce in Jigawa
A 40-year-old woman from Garin Mallam village in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa set herself on fire after her husband divorced her, according to DSP Lawan Shiisu, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning when the woman, battling depression after her divorce, poured petrol on herself and ignited the flames.
The police responded swiftly to the scene, confirmed the incident, and transported the charred body to the hospital before releasing it to the family for burial.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, urged people to seek support and guidance during difficult times to prevent such tragedies.
DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident in a statement in Dutse, on Friday.
He explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased experienced depression a few months following her divorce by her husband.
The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ahmadu Abdullahi, advised people to always submit their affairs to Almighty Allah for a way out.
Abdullahi also advised people to always seek advice and counselling from their elders on complex issues in order to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
