The Ebonyi government announced on Monday that flight operations at Chuba Okadigbo Airport in Onueke are expected to commence in November.

Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, the State Commissioner for Aviation, shared this update during a facility inspection by Governor Francis Nwifuru, part of the state’s 28th anniversary activities.

Obichukwu explained that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) inspected the airport’s newly asphalted 3.1-kilometer runway, which had previously hindered operations due to its condition.

The runway, capable of accommodating five aircraft simultaneously, was rehabilitated by the current administration, with asphalting completed on July 8, 2024.

Governor Nwifuru praised the project’s timely completion, noting significant improvements since his last visit and acknowledging the financial investment made.

He also expressed a desire to honor the late lead engineer by naming one of the airport’s plazas after him.

The airport, inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari, had previously suspended operations due to runway construction issues.
