Nigeria introduces 15 new skills acquisition programs for schools
This initiative will not only empower our students with essential skills but also help bridge the gap between education and employment,” a government spokesperson stated, emphasizing the program’s potential to foster a more skilled and self-reliant youth population in Nigeria.
In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing vocational education, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the introduction of 15 skill acquisition programs into the curriculum of primary and junior secondary schools across the country.
This initiative, set to begin in the 2025 academic year, aims to equip students with practical skills that will prepare them for future job markets.
Under the new curriculum, students will have the opportunity to choose one skill from a diverse range of 15 options, allowing them to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in that field before advancing to the next class.
This program spans from Primary 1 to Junior Secondary School 3, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive education in their chosen skill over a nine-year period.
The 15 skills include:
- Plumbing
- Tiling and Floor Works
- POP Installation
- Event Decoration and Management
- Bakery and Confectioneries
- Hairstyling
- Makeup
- Interior Design
- GSM Repairs
- Satellite/TV Antenna Installation
- CCTV, Intercom Installation, and Maintenance
- Solar Installation and Maintenance
- Garment Making
