Lagos Government reiterates ban on hunting dogs and livestock sales on streets
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its stance that the sale of livestock and the use of hunting dogs on the streets remain illegal in the state.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, warned that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps would take immediate action against violators.
Wahab’s statement, issued on Tuesday, follows the circulation of videos showing individuals distributing puppies in the Lekki area of the state.
He emphasized that such activities disrupt public order and pose significant health risks.
“Street trading and the sale of goods or animals are prohibited under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
Those involved in the indiscriminate display and sale of livestock on roadsides are violating both the Environmental and Agricultural Laws of the state.
These actions not only disrupt public order but also pose significant health risks,” Wahab explained.

He further pointed out that selling sickly dog puppies on the streets highlights the dangers associated with these practices.
Enforcement of these laws falls under the responsibility of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Unit and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).
The government, Wahab concluded, remains committed to ensuring compliance with all environmental, agricultural, and public health regulations to maintain order and safety across the state.
